May 16th 2019, Brossard, Quebec – May is Celiac Awareness Month and May 16 is internationally recognized as Celiac Awareness Day. This year five major cities across Canada will display green lights to mark the occasion.
The following is a schedule of the light displays:
May 1 – Toronto – CN Tower (Dusk)
British Columbia: The Science World Museum, the Burrard Bridge, BC Place
Edmonton: High-Level Bridge
Calgary: Calgary Tower
Montreal: Olympic Tower
May 1, 2019 we will be marking the day from 10 am to 2 pm by displaying French and English CCA banners at the McGill University Health Center’s Glen site - just above their main cafeteria. We will also be distributing CCA Rack Cards with information on how to contact the CCA. A dietitian and dietitian student will be on hand, with the collaboration of the MUHC's Nutrition Department an as well as a representative of the CCA's Quebec Chapter.
Monday May 6th at 8:15 am on CJAD 800 AM – dietitian Leslie Beck will discuss Celiac Awareness Month during her regular spot on CJAD on the Andrew Carter Show.
Saturday May 11th at 6:30 am on CJAD 800 AM dietitian Kim Arrey will discuss Celiac Awareness Month during the Ken Connor’s show.
Thursday May16th which is also designated Celiac Awareness Day in Canada, in conjunction with the French group the FQMC, we successfully applied to have the Olympic Tower lit green for us from dusk on May 16th to dawn on May 17th.
We encourage all to wear the green ribbon if you have one, and on May 16th together with the FQMC it is suggested you try to wear something green to show support for us.

Canadian Celiac Podcasts with Sue Jennett of the Kingston Chapter on theme topics for Celiac Awareness Month
For Parents & Children with Celiac Disease: The book Growing Up Celiac has been revised and relaunched and in addition there is a revised Growing Up Celiac resource book for parents - plus 3 videos - see www.celiac.ca under Living Gluten-Free - Children
These videos are supported by a new parent workbook resource. Families can either order a printable version at home, or a pre-printed colour version for $5.00 plus shipping costs.
Finally the CCA website has been translated into French and will be launched in the next week or two. Our Quebec Chapter dollars contributed to this translation using a Quebec-based company.
